Midnight Snack1 pplNT$205

Around ten o'clock at night, I passed by here and found that there were actually dry noodles available at this time. I thought I had discovered a treasure of a restaurant; their business hours are until midnight, and even close to closing, it was still bustling with people. When I wanted to dine in, the noise level was such that the owner didn’t have time to clear the tables. Later, I found out that this place is a chain with branches all over the place. I really got to know it too late!

The items on the menu seemed very cool, with options like meatballs, noodles, and wontons, and they surprisingly also sell freshly squeezed juice and shaved ice... So my late-night snack that night was quite diverse! 😂

✐ Changhua meatballs $40

  • I think the meatballs are the best choice. The skin has a nice chewiness, and the meat filling doesn’t have any fishy smell; the portion is decent too. The highlight is the garlic sauce on top, which is very flavorful! I also added some chili oil from the self-service sauce area.

✐ Beef dry noodles (small) $110

  • I thought I wouldn’t be able to eat much, so I ordered a small portion, and when it arrived, I was shocked. A bowl bigger than my hand was placed in front of me. However, just by looking, it was clear that the noodles wouldn’t have much flavor, and they really didn’t. They were so bland that it was quite incredible. I ended up pouring all the sauce from the meatballs into the noodles and added soy sauce and vinegar before I felt it was flavorful enough. The beef portion was quite generous, and the texture was a mix between tender and dry. I was really looking forward to it, but the beef turned out to be overly salty and the sauce very strong, with a taste similar to doubanjiang. The whole bowl of noodles was quite boring, but in terms of satiety, it was definitely top-notch! 👆🏻

✐ Pineapple milk $55

  • The actual weight was very light; maybe 1/3 of it was milk foam. I could finish a cup in just a few sips; there was more milk flavor than pineapple. I suggest drinking it quickly after receiving it; otherwise, if it sits for a while, the pineapple enzymes will break down the protein, resulting in a distinctly bitter taste!

Additionally, I found the environment to be quite bright and clean compared to other traditional snack shops. There were plenty of seats inside, and it was convenient to pause my scooter outside. That day, all the staff were aunties, and they had fiery tempers, so don’t provoke them! 🫰🏻

阿樓師火雞肉飯
Street FoodChiayi City

A bit disappointing. The idea is good, but most of the food in different stalls (tested 3) is pretty average and oily. Nothing else to do inside. But nice picnic table to spend some time with friends. Prices are ok.

Genuine food enthusiasts know that it’s not always about set menus & ostentatious wine pairings. Occasionally, we just wanna head out without a fuss, throw on a pair of preppy shorts for a snacky bowl of old town’s sweet juicy roasted pork, crabmeat & wontons noodle in rich chx broth & a icy c0oL cup of fresh aromatic banana mixed berries cold-pressed juice. It’s often the hearty, casual & simple meals that bring out the true scrumptious taste of Thai. For any ‘anytime, anywhere’ occasions, we’d recommend expats, tourists or even locals to gather in this Bangkok’s top street food court. Sometimes, there’s nothing better than quasi-street eats (with air conditioning, ofc, heheehh). Here, we roam around the Bangkok’s signature food court for the city’s most ordinary yet eXtraordinarily delectable drinks & noodles feasts. nom nom nom + affordable + ample aircon + vibrant vibes + fast + plenty of comfy seats + exotic background music + bromantic sexy lightings + noisy atmosphere all around u like dining in an overcrowded concrete jungle with all the unknown mythical creatures from all over the universe speaking in their languages = fun fun fun 🥰✌🏻
