When visiting Jiaoxi, you can't miss soaking in a hot spring. Then, in the evening, having barbecued meat with beer is a must. I found a pretty well-reviewed charcoal grill restaurant online, located right across from the Hi-Life store in Jiaoxi. It's called Muzi Skewers.
When in Yilan, you definitely have to try the Sanxing scallions. We ordered the must-try pork and scallion skewers. The tender slices of meat wrap around the scallion segments, coated with sauce and filled with a rich charcoal aroma. A single bite is super satisfying and juicy, with the scallion flavor being pleasant, not overwhelming.
The bacon and scallion skewers are equally delicious. The bacon isn't overly salty and pairs well with the scallions, making it not greasy at all—a delightful combination that I highly recommend.
The fried then grilled tofu puffs are crispy and get more fragrant with each bite, showcasing the flavor of the bean. We also ordered shiitake mushrooms, green peppers, sweet potato noodles, mackerel, chicken thigh skewers, and diced beef skewers, among others.
The grilling skills of the restaurant are quite impressive. Everything is grilled perfectly and is delicious without any disappointment. The special barbecue sauce they make isn’t too salty either. Holding a skewer in one hand, combined with beer, is truly enjoyable. You can call ahead to place your order for pickup, so you don’t have to wait too long.
