🚩 Taipei East District: The Old Master's Tainan Flavor

Wanxiangzhai is located in the East District of Taipei City, with the nearest MRT station being Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Station Exit 2, about a 4-minute walk away. The sign on the shop reads Guangfu Branch; there used to be a main store on Yanji Street Lane 30, but it closed a year ago, leaving only the Guangfu Branch.

The entrance of the shop is the cooking area, and the interior space is small with about 22 seats. It gets very busy at lunchtime, and you might have to share tables. The shop uses wooden tables and chairs, probably to create a retro feel, but there are lots of miscellaneous items piled in corners, leading to a slight mess.

Ordering is done by filling out a paper menu and handing it to the staff, with payment made after dining. Both cash and two payment methods are accepted.

Today I ordered a large bowl of Tainan Rice Cake for $55, which is supposedly their signature dish. The fragrant and chewy rice is drizzled with a bit of braised sauce and accompanied by various toppings (peanuts, shredded carrot, slices of white radish, cucumber, and fish floss), without any sweet bean paste sauce. The portion is fairly large, with each ingredient well-prepared, though the overall texture leans dry.

Milkfish Ball Soup for $40: It contains 3 fish balls with a soft texture, fairly standard.

Overall, it's alright, no major disappointments. My appetite can be fully satisfied with 100 TWD, making it quite a value for money.

Rice cake (large) $55
Rice cake (small) $45 compared to the larger size
Milkfish Ball Soup $40
Four Gods Soup $60

阿樓師火雞肉飯
Street FoodChiayi City

A bit disappointing. The idea is good, but most of the food in different stalls (tested 3) is pretty average and oily. Nothing else to do inside. But nice picnic table to spend some time with friends. Prices are ok.

Genuine food enthusiasts know that it’s not always about set menus & ostentatious wine pairings. Occasionally, we just wanna head out without a fuss, throw on a pair of preppy shorts for a snacky bowl of old town’s sweet juicy roasted pork, crabmeat & wontons noodle in rich chx broth & a icy c0oL cup of fresh aromatic banana mixed berries cold-pressed juice. It’s often the hearty, casual & simple meals that bring out the true scrumptious taste of Thai. For any ‘anytime, anywhere’ occasions, we’d recommend expats, tourists or even locals to gather in this Bangkok’s top street food court. Sometimes, there’s nothing better than quasi-street eats (with air conditioning, ofc, heheehh). Here, we roam around the Bangkok’s signature food court for the city’s most ordinary yet eXtraordinarily delectable drinks & noodles feasts. nom nom nom + affordable + ample aircon + vibrant vibes + fast + plenty of comfy seats + exotic background music + bromantic sexy lightings + noisy atmosphere all around u like dining in an overcrowded concrete jungle with all the unknown mythical creatures from all over the universe speaking in their languages = fun fun fun 🥰✌🏻
