A friend suddenly saw this place recommended on Instagram, and since the style looked pretty good, we decided to give it a try. I personally felt like they wanted to follow the route of Ximen Zhan. On that weekend afternoon, there weren’t many people, just around four groups including us. We simply ordered some items we were interested in.
▪️ Wu Shuang Yan Yang Pot (4-5 people) Slightly Spicy $500
The duck blood tofu in the soup base is ordered separately. If you don't have enough, you need to order more. I didn’t really get to try the tofu, but my friend said the duck blood was flavorful and very tasty. We ordered it slightly spicy, but we all felt it was quite spicy and got spicier as it cooked. The staff would check if we needed to adjust the spiciness, and after decreasing it, it was more palatable. The flavor was normal, and the clear soup pot was very light, without any special broth flavor.
▪️ Plum Blossom Pork $360 ▪️ American Beef $460
The portion of the meat was bigger than I expected, and both the pork and beef were delicious! Not bad at all.
▪️ Squid Paste $230 ▪️ Assorted Balls $130
▪️ Handmade Egg Dumplings $120 ▪️ Bean Curd Skin $80
▪️ Flying Fish Roe Fuda $130 ▪️ Fried Dough Sticks $80
▪️ Cabbage $100 ▪️ Water Lily $100
▪️ White Rice $20 ▪️ Plum Juice 850ml $120
The balls and side dishes are actually not too different from those in other restaurants; they generally have a taste you can find elsewhere. The plum juice was tasty, which is definitely needed when eating spicy hot pot.
Overall, it was normally delicious; the prices were about what you would expect. The quality of the meat was good, and the portions were generous, but aside from the decor, there wasn’t any particular memorable aspect of the food. If you want to eat spicy hot pot, you can still give it a try. It’s also easier to make reservations compared to other famous places, but for me, it’s still a one-time visit.
