Dongmen Duck Restaurant, established in 1979 in Dongmen, Taipei City, is quite a famous Hong Kong-style roasted meat bento shop in the northern city. The Xinyi branch is located on Songshan Road, near Yongchun Station, in a bustling area with heavy traffic.
Today, I enjoyed a super value double portion of roasted meat and roasted duck rice, along with a takeaway crispy duck breast rice, totaling 400 TWD.
Roasted Meat and Duck Rice:
If you choose the double portion, the meal box will be round. Upon opening and confirming, it indeed has double the meat portion, that is beyond doubt. The roasted meat is crispy and delicious, with the meat being tender and juicy, the fat and lean parts appearing quite enticing. The roasted duck skin is also classic, with a rich duck flavor. Of course, you can't avoid the bones in the duck meat.
Crispy Duck Breast Rice:
I cannot accept that the duck breast has bones... It definitely has a richer duck oil and duck meat juice compared to roasted duck, but the bones... I've had quite a few duck breasts that I could finish without any burden, and this is the first time I've encountered a duck breast with quite a few bones.
As for the side dishes, it's not worth mentioning; there aren't many roasted meat shops with delicious side dishes, to be honest. If the sides are tasty, the roast meats may end up being mediocre, which I really don't understand the reasoning behind. The corn is quite awkward, but at least the cabbage is tender and not aged.
Overall, it’s a chain roasted meat shop with consistently good meat quality. But we should not have too high expectations for the side dishes.
The prices are also somewhat higher, as expected in the northern city.
I recommend it to everyone.
