The Caesar Hotel, located next to Taipei Main Station, boasts not only extremely convenient transportation but also an impressive dining environment in its banquet restaurant—spacious, softly lit, and overall clean and tidy, making it suitable for family gatherings or formal banquets.

This time, we enjoyed the exquisite banquet at Caesar. The opening dish, iced梅 fruit fermented tomatoes, was stunning—sweet and sour, awakening the appetite right away. The crispy Matsusaka pork had a thin and crunchy skin, paired with roasted sugar for a burst of creativity; the scallion oil chicken was quite standard. The surprise was the seasonal fatty intestines, which were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, flavorful and savory—a big recommendation! In contrast, the large knife twice-cooked pork was a bit dry, which was somewhat disappointing.

The garlic silver thread snow crab legs had slightly salty vermicelli, but the crab meat was fresh and had a firm texture. The dynasty peach wood sliced skin duck served three ways was impressive, whether it was the crispy skin, tender duck meat, or the follow-up creative ways to enjoy it—all were delightful!

The Caesar's signature pig's trotter was surprisingly delicious. As someone who lived in Germany for six months and has tried various German pig trotters, this dish had the authentic German flavor that made me nod in approval, blending the savory aroma of Taiwanese-style seasoning and a Q-bouncy gelatinous texture 🍖🍖.

The black diamond chicken leg was tender and tasty; however, the paired sakura shrimp rice cake was just average. The old vegetable white jade chicken pot had a warm and sweet chicken broth that made me keep wanting more—I personally had four bowls XD—but the chicken was slightly inferior to the black diamond chicken. Finally, the mango sago was a bit sweet, but it added a reasonably sweet finishing touch to the entire meal!

Umami by Han
AsianMaastricht
Umami is a modern asian fusion restaurant which "is dedicated to creating a unique dining experience that combines the best of both worlds, showcasing the art of umami flavors and fostering a sense of community through social dining." They serve original Chinese fusion dishes in a modern setting. The dishes are innovative with a culinary touch for an accessible price. Not only the food is innovative and different from anything else, they also serve amazing tea-pairing menus. You can choose between the social dining menu which comes with 3 courses while each course consists of two dishes to be picked from the menu. However, all dishes can be ordered a la carte as well. Additionaly there are two pre-arranged menues, the Michelin Bib Gourmand menu to be chosen between three or four courses and which is available as a vegetarian version too. We went for the Michelin Bib Gourmand menu with four courses. The selection was very well chosen. The two dishes coming for each course matched very well and delivered a journey through all different tastes. The atmosphere was good and the staff very friendly and helpful. Definately a recommendation if you like asian food and want to try many different tastes for dinner.

🐓 expats are as expats do — a famous touristy place for enjoying the world-renowned 海南-styled Chicken Rice, medicinal herbal soup with quality bitter melon plus extra sweet choko, a icy-cold longan drink that is good for maintaining better blood pressure (especially after consuming so much meaty saturated and trans fats) and a petite bowl of complimentary traditional Chicken’s Feet Soup — well, the simple yet aromatic chicken is fresh, juicy and tender with a pinch of salt and their secret spicy chilly sauce; not anything surprising beyond foodies’ fairly high gastronomic expectations though, these affordable flavors are eternally welcomed for worldwide hungry customers indeed.
