梅花雞蛋糕

In Hsinchu, you have to try the Mei Hua egg cake, but as a tourist, I'm still not quite sure which shop is the original or the best 🙂‍↕️. So I decisively tried the Mei Hua egg cake that is always queued up at Chenghuang Temple.

When I arrived, I could go directly to the boss to get a number, and the boss was really cool and didn't say much. The contrast with the number tag I received at this shop was quite striking, haha... It had that old-fashioned flavor, and every number had a design; for example, the one I got was an orange 🤣.

When I went, the shop had just opened, and the numbers were already at 18, starting from 0. But since everything is freshly baked, it took about 30 minutes to wait.

The good thing is that you get steaming hot egg cakes. A portion costs 40 NT and includes five pieces, and they're very traditional without any filling. The cakes feel light when you pick them up, and biting into them gives a fluffy sensation. What’s special is the crispy outer layer, where you can feel the fine sugar texture, so each bite has two different flavors interwoven together, making it very appetizing. However, overall, the flavor is on the sweeter side~
