Located in Taitung, Xinsheng Bento is a familiar daily bento shop for many locals, taking a simple and honest approach. This time, I chose takeout, and it was during meal hours when the shop was bustling with people. You can sense its popularity among nearby residents and office workers. Although it is not a shop known for its decor, it is clean, bright, and has a clear flow, making the process of selecting food quite smooth.
The biggest feature of Xinsheng Bento is the variety of choices available. The main dishes and side dishes displayed on the counter are numerous and diverse, ranging from meats and eggs to various vegetables, which can easily lead one to serve too much. This time, I chose chicken thigh, cabbage, a fried egg, and three-cup mushrooms, paired with white rice.
The chicken thigh is the star of the bento, with a mild seasoning that is not overpowering, and the meat is firm, making it not greasy—suitable for most people's tastes. The cabbage is crisp and retains the vegetable's sweetness, simple yet enjoyable. The fried egg is cooked just right, with a natural egg flavor, making it a popular side in the bento. The three-cup mushrooms have a hint of sauce flavor but are not overly salty; they have a fragrant aroma without overpowering the other dishes, pairing well with them.
Overall, the taste leans towards refreshing and not overly salty, and combined with the affordable price and generous portions and options, the value for money is quite high.
