【Foodholic Nako @ Jeju Island, Korea】
"Old-School Fried Chicken Seongsan Branch" is a fried chicken restaurant located near Seongsan Ilchulbong on the eastern side of Jeju Island. It’s not a tourist hotspot; I stumbled upon it while casually scrolling through the Naver map. I saw that the reviews were pretty good, so I decided to give it a try.
It’s a small shop that doesn’t look particularly appealing, with no special decor. It feels very authentic and local as a fried chicken place, and there are often delivery drivers coming in to pick up orders. They don’t have an English menu, so we just showed the staff pictures on our phones to place our order (there were young staff members who could communicate in English).
We ordered a half-and-half fried chicken for ₩18,000. The half-and-half means it comes with two different flavors, and the overall portion is quite generous, enough for two people to have a satisfying dinner!
One flavor is just the fried version, which feels like the original taste but has a slight spiciness. Even when it cooled down, the skin remained crispy. The other flavor is coated in a sauce that seems to be a sweet and spicy taste with garlic; it's also nice, but the sauce is quite moist, making it a bit inconvenient to eat.
Additionally, they provide a small box of pickled radish, which feels like a must-have with Korean fried chicken. It tastes like you would expect, so I won’t elaborate further. However, this fried chicken shop doesn’t include a small can of soda like chain fried chicken places do.
Overall, I think it’s tasty! While it may not be a must-visit, if you happen to be in the area and aren’t sure what to eat at night, it’s worth stopping by!
