The black pork at this restaurant mainly features a combination of pork belly and pork neck, which is flavorful without being greasy. Paired with side dishes and fresh lettuce, it offers a rich and diverse taste experience.
The store is located on the eastern side of Jeju Island, designed in eye-catching red. It is a local barbecue restaurant full of warmth and friendliness, providing a home-like feeling to its guests.
The staff is friendly and sincere, some can speak Chinese, the service attitude is good, and they help with grilling, so customers don't have to worry about burning the food.
Foodholic Niko @ Jeju Island, Korea
"Donirang Seongsan Branch" is a barbecue restaurant located near Seongsan Ilchulbong on the east side of Jeju Island. I forgot which blog I read about this place, so I decided to come here to try the famous black pork of Jeju Island!
The entrance is eye-catching red, and it seems like one of those very local barbecue spots (the kind that feels warm and friendly), not a fancy chain restaurant.
The staff were very friendly, with some who spoke Chinese, and they gave a sincere impression with excellent service, worthy of an extra 0.5 stars.
The menu for black pork here is quite simple (there's also a Chinese translation!), featuring a combination of pork belly and pork neck. You just need to choose for two, three, or four people. We chose the portion for two, priced at ₩66,000.
The staff helps grill all the black pork, so there's no need to worry about burning it or making it unappetizing.
You can also order soybean paste soup, spicy kimchi soup, or cold noodles to go with the pork, but we were afraid of getting too full, so we didn’t order any.
As for drinks, there are many alcoholic options to choose from. We ordered the Hallasan soju that the staff recommended, which most people tend to order, but we found it tasted like a very light sorghum liquor, so we thought it was just okay, not particularly to our liking.
Upon being seated, the staff will serve some side dishes. If you don't have enough side dishes and lettuce, you can refill them as much as you want, but please everyone, cherish the food and only take as much as you can eat!
The black pork itself was quite delicious, not too greasy, and when paired with the side dishes and lettuce, it was incredibly tasty. There are endless ways to enjoy it, changing up the combinations with different side dishes and dipping sauces — it’s fantastic!
If you're staying near Seongsan Ilchulbong, I'd highly recommend this place. The prices aren't too expensive, and two people can eat very well for around 1500 TWD!
