Located on the basement floor near the McDonald's in Ximen, there is a large sign for Gen Lai Teppanyaki at the staircase entrance. After going downstairs, there is a door on the left side where you can tell the server how many people are in your group, and they will take you to your seat and help you place your order. After ordering the main dish, you will receive two kinds of vegetables (water spinach and bean sprouts). If you don't eat bean sprouts, you can switch them for more water spinach, but the server will remind you that the portion of the vegetables will be a bit less. The saltiness of the stir-fried vegetables is just right. Unfortunately, I ordered it with a little spice, but it seems the chili wasn’t cooked long enough, so there was no heat at all. However, the flavor was still quite good. Additionally, there is a self-service option for unlimited white rice and soup. The main dish of pork is stir-fried with black pepper sauce, which tastes somewhat like the black pepper pork from high school lunch — pretty nostalgic! 😂
I noticed that others had large chicken thigh steaks, so I would love to come back next time to try it!
