🍻 Affordable Izakaya to Taste Local Yamaguchi Cuisine! Plus, a Popular Unlimited Sake Plan with Dassai!

Around the Shin-Yamaguchi Station, there are many business hotels, mostly used by people on business trips. In the evening, the area is almost entirely filled with izakayas or chain restaurants. After searching, I found this place to be the most reasonably priced with good reviews.

Since it is an izakaya, they will serve some small dishes after you sit down, and there will be an additional charge of 300 yen at the time of checkout, which is quite normal! On this day, they served delicious white radish and taro, which were thoughtful small dishes (unlike in Tokyo, where I often encounter very half-hearted offerings).

The menu has a lot of local Yamaguchi dishes, such as fugu sashimi and fugu hot pot, but since I was alone, I ordered the highly-rated "Yaki-soba" and a side dish of whole fish sticks.

The seating here is all in private booths. I was initially worried about being scammed because it seemed very understated and upscale, but the menu was really a great value! The seafood from Yamaguchi is considered high-quality ingredients, and the prices here are almost like those at a fish market. I've included my food impressions in the picture descriptions.

Additionally, since Yamaguchi is well-known for the sake "Dassai," there are many places to buy Dassai at the station, and this izakaya offers an unlimited drinking plan for Dassai!

If you have the chance to stop by Shin-Yamaguchi Station, it’s worth dining here. Going with a group will definitely enhance the experience! (There's not much else delicious nearby in the evening.)

Yamaguchi specialty tile fried noodles (1,419 yen), heated and served on a tile, topped with plenty of green onions and beef!
Fish cakes are also a major specialty in Yamaguchi. You can eat them whole without soy sauce to experience their own chewy texture and the fresh sweetness of the fish paste. Pairing them with soy sauce and wasabi is somewhat similar to squid sashimi! At 649 yen, it's very worth it.
The noodles are made of buckwheat tea, and because the tiles underneath are continuously heated, the surface of the noodles is softer, while the bottom is slightly crispy. They can be paired with seasoned beef, noodle sauce, and finally garnished with lemon, offering many different ways to enjoy the flavors.
The side dish is 300 yen, which is considered a basic expense.
In 1980, you could enjoy 2 hours of unlimited drinking of sake (and various Japanese wines)!
