The savory dishes from Taitung's sesame tube have a distinctly spicy Sichuan flavor compared to typical Taiwanese braised dishes, with a noticeable amount of sesame and spice that creates a very unique style. The ordering method is similar to common braised dishes shops, allowing customers to freely select ingredients before unifying the seasoning, providing great flexibility.
This time, I chose Korean instant noodles as the main component, paired with ingredients like black wheel cakes, rice blood cakes, braised eggs, vegetables, and sweet and spicy fish cakes. Once the instant noodles absorb the broth, they have a chewy texture that pairs very well with the strong-flavored braising sauce. The overall seasoning does lean towards Sichuan cuisine, with both spice and numbing sensations present, but not overpowering, making it the kind of dish that keeps you wanting more.
The ingredients were consistently good; the black wheel cakes and sweet and spicy fish cakes were more flavorful after soaking up the broth, the rice blood cakes were soft and not dry, and the braised eggs were well-seasoned. The vegetables played an important role in balancing the heavier flavors, slightly cutting through the oiliness and spiciness, ensuring that the dish didn’t become too rich.
However, one downside to the dining environment is that there is a bit of a smoky smell in the shop, which somewhat affects the overall experience, especially when enjoying a dish with such strong aromas. For those sensitive to environmental odors, this might be a concern.
