Previously, I saw on YouTube about a gloomy dessert shop that visited this place in Yingge Old Street, and I was very eager to give it a try! I originally planned to make a reservation in advance, but it was already fully booked on the day, so I took a chance and went in person. I arrived around 12:30 PM and was the first group in line. I ended up waiting almost half an hour before being seated, which was a bit earlier than I expected.
▪️Dong Ding Oolong winter vegetable braised pork $420 (set price)
(+$30 to switch rice for Gua Bao)
· The set includes a main dish, red tea rice, soup, side dishes, and a tea set.
My friend and I weren't very hungry, so we decided to order this. The meat was seasoned okay but not very tender; the bottom had oil tofu that soaked up the broth without being too salty. Since we didn’t want rice, we purchased an upgrade to Gua Bao, which paired excellently with the fatty meat, peanut powder, and cilantro! The meat portion was generous, definitely enough to make a third wrap. The other side dishes and soup were standard, with some utilizing tea flavors for seasoning.
▪️Sakura golden and silver cakes $160
This was essentially fried sweet potato strips topped with sakura shrimp, which was quite delicious. It was fried just right but should be eaten hot.
▪️Pearl Assam milk tea $150 (with a $60 discount when swapping for a drink in the set)
I swapped the original tea for this one. I remembered their milk tea being quite good (plus you could pour milk yourself), but I didn't know why we received this version (likely a different item). Honestly, the milk tea was quite ordinary….but the pearls were amazing!! The brown sugar flavor was well infused, the texture was big and chewy, and the most impressive part was the pearls!!
▪️Caramel pearl baked crème brûlée $98
The pearls tasted just as good as in the drink. The caramel layer on top of the crème brûlée was excellent, complementing the creamy texture of the brûlée itself, with a strong vanilla flavor and just the right egg fragrance — delicious!
Overall, the restaurant options in the old street aren’t very numerous, especially for those with unique decor; the dishes are visually appealing, and the flavors complement the tea, so I think it’s definitely worth dining here if you’re visiting. I recommend making a reservation to be safer. The restaurant requires going down stairs, making it less suitable for elderly people with mobility issues.
· Minimum consumption is one main dish or $300 per person (not noted on the menu, but confirmed with the staff at the time).
