My number one peppercorn pancake.
Although originated from Fuzhou onion meat pancakes, pepper pancakes are flourishing in Taipei, with many stores, each with its own style. In addition to the greater Taipei area, I have also tasted several pepper pancakes in the west and east. They all have their own opinions on the size, seasoning, meat filling, and pie crust.
Fuyuan Pepper Cake, located on Huayin Street, is our favorite shop that we have visited the most. It is also a popular famous store, so you often need to pay first, get a number plate, and wait for the next batch of pepper cakes.
The crust is easy to bite, has moderate crispiness, and is not too soft or thick. The pork filling is generous and chunky, mainly lean meat, and not greasy at all. The pepper and green onion flavors do not overpower the show, and the tasting experience is very balanced and satiating. No wonder everyone is willing to wait for an hour or two.
