The quality of the barbecue at Lao Jing is excellent, with the marbling of the meat evenly distributed and the seasoning just right. The thick-cut beef tongue and Japanese dishes like "falling leaves returning to roots" are highly recommended. Desserts like the exquisite baked crème brûlée are also impressive. The diverse menu choices are sure to excite your appetite.
The restaurant space is spacious and clean, creating a comfortable dining environment that makes people feel relaxed, suitable for gatherings and celebrations. You can feel the warmth of the service as soon as you enter.
The staff's attitude is friendly and attentive, actively assisting with changing the grilling rack and grilling seafood, and providing wet wipes, making the dining experience feel warm and cared for. Ordering through the mobile app is convenient, and the service is enthusiastic and thorough.

Originally, I planned to visit the Taiwan Folk Arts Museum in the back, but I discovered that there is an old well at the intersection. Perfectly, there was a reservation available after 30 minutes, so I immediately booked it to give it a try.
As soon as I walked in, I felt the enthusiastic service. After being seated, there was a paper menu available to look at, and the staff enthusiastically introduced the dishes. The ordering method was through a mobile ordering system, but of course, one can also ask the staff for assistance with ordering!
Since we only wanted to eat meat today, we discussed and decided to order a la carte instead of selecting a set menu. However, the restaurant didn’t hold back on any of the offerings, and everything was available for free refills!
⭐️ Chicken Soup
Although they don’t provide green onions like other places, pouring out the warm soup from the thermos was really comforting.

Sour and sweet, it was very refreshing!

Includes barbecue sauce, lemon juice, and kombu salt, but the meat was already slightly seasoned, so we didn’t use much.

The meat was all delicious, with an even distribution of marbling. The seasoning was just right, allowing the fresh flavor of the beef to shine through. Additionally, there were fixed side dishes (like peeled chili peppers) that could be enjoyed together, which was very unique and tasty! I started with the thick-cut beef tongue and later had the selected beef tongue, which was a bit of a regret; I’ll definitely continue to order the thick-cut next time XD.

Rice cakes filled with salmon roe and salmon cubes, paired with onions and wasabi—a bite full of salmon sweetness.

Dessert always goes into another stomach, so even after getting full, I had to have a serving of crème brûlée (laughs). The top layer was crispy caramel paired with the lower layer of perfectly sweet and creamy pudding. So delicious!
In summary, in a place with such fierce competition in Taichung’s BBQ market, Old Well still has its place, showcasing its excellence. I definitely look forward to visiting again!

I only tried Laojing for the first time after they opened in Taipei!
They offer a set menu, and you can scan the QR code to order online.
(If the elders can’t use it, the staff will assist them in ordering verbally.)
The space is spacious and clean, and there’s no residual smoke smell after dining.
From the moment I entered until I left, the staff wore big smiles.
Dining time is two hours.
If you are grilling too slowly, the staff will come over to help with grilling.
They will frequently change the grill mesh and will come over occasionally to offer wet wipes for your hands,
making you feel like a child being taken care of. 🤣
Most of Laojing’s meats are marinated and taste a bit sweet.
They come with three dipping sauces, highly recommending the lemon juice to balance the flavors. 👍

◽ Tasting Couple’s Set $2190 (+$128)
Basic appetizers and soup: kimchi (no free refills), white peach vinegar drink (pot),
scallion salt beef tongue, passion fruit crispy snack, chicken soup, lettuce.
Appetizer: Caesar salad - the croutons were really tasty, and the greens were fresh.
Leaf Return (diced raw salmon, salmon roe, with mustard) was a bit hard to understand.
The seared salmon sushi was delicious, and the nigiri sushi was good as well.
Rice Dish: Everyone please add $128 for an upgrade.
Garlic shrimp stone pot rice - the shrimp flavor is super rich, and there are plenty of shrimp roe! They will help divide the bowl.
Main Dish: Highly recommend the garlic butter chicken thigh - it has a sweet garlic flavor.
Angular Matsusaka pork and pork collar - perfect for wrapping in lettuce.
Angus beef/reverse-sear/shoulder flap, by the end I forgot who was who...
There’s one with scallions and peeled chili, super good! It saves you from taste fatigue.
Seafood: Sashimi-grade large scallops (big, but not very memorable).
Sea-flavored large prawns - the shrimp are all delicious.
Cuttlefish slices - grill until they turn milky white for more moisture.
Dessert: POLS ice cream, baked crème brûlée.
Drinks: Laojing hand-shaken tea.

This roast pork restaurant is the one I recommend most in my life.
I tried Wu Ma and Cha Liu in Taichung, which were often recommended before, but I couldn't eat either of them, and I didn't feel satisfied.
This Laojing restaurant is one where I feel the meat is very enjoyable, the quality is also good, and the service attitude is also very good.
You don't have to keep saying specifically that you want to replace the grill grid, they will come and replace it for you.
But this may mainly depend on the store. If you have never tried it before, I really recommend it. You can eat delicious food and have good service.
If you drive a car nearby, you can park in the basement of the park. If you drive a motorcycle, it's easy to park. There are parking spaces nearby.
I went to eat on my birthday, and I could get a 10% discount by showing my ID at checkout.
For dessert, they also give you a birthday dessert. I didn’t take any special photos here because I was afraid of thunderstorms, and they also asked if they wanted to sing Happy Birthday.
Of course I refused directly. They might be scared if I asked for it.
All in all, the quality of the meat is really nothing to say. I really want to find time to eat it again, but next time I want to challenge the roast pork Zhongshan.
