The classic Murakami pudding cake is characterized by its fluffy texture. The chocolate flavor is rich and not overly sweet, while the strawberry flavor features a thick sauce to enhance moisture. The matcha flavor is rather average, with a less pronounced aroma. Priced affordably, it is suitable as a snack or a gift.
The "Murakami Pudding Cake" at the Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station is somewhat well-known, specializing in traditional flavor cakes. However, to be honest, after eating it, I'm still not quite sure where the "pudding" is. It’s just a very fluffy and soft cake, and the texture is indeed quite good.
I’ve tried a few flavors before, and personally, I recommend the chocolate and strawberry. The chocolate has a rich flavor that isn’t too sweet and is quite stable in performance. This time I ordered the strawberry; the cake is just as soft as the original flavor, and it has a filling similar to strawberry jam, which surprisingly keeps the cake moist, making it quite pleasant to eat—definitely a plus.
I’m usually a matcha fan, but I think their matcha flavor is average—the matcha aroma isn’t prominent. Perhaps the overall seasoning is more conservative, lacking that slight bitterness and sweetness that good matcha should have. So compared to that, I still recommend chocolate or strawberry.
As for the price, it’s quite friendly, especially for a handmade cake; you won’t feel pain when buying it. If you happen to be near the Taoyuan High Speed Rail Station and want a little snack or to bring back as a souvenir, it’s a good choice.
