Flying fish rice balls are a must-try signature dish, but you need to wake up early to ensure you can taste them. The walnut cheese toast is rich and flavorful; although the toast isn't crispy enough, it's still satisfying. The black tea is just average.
Located in Hongtou Village, the store is small and resembles a pavilion on the hillside, with seats facing the sea to enjoy the beautiful view.
The boss is warm and charming, chatting with customers and making people feel the friendliness of the people from Orchid Island.
【Foodholic Niko @ Lanyu】
"Ali's Breakfast Shop" is located in the Hongtou tribe in the southern part of Lanyu. It is said to be a must-try breakfast spot in Hongtou, famous for its limited daily flying fish rice balls. There are reportedly only 60 available each day, and each customer is allowed to buy only one. By around 7 a.m., they are often sold out, so if you don't arrive early, you won't get to try them.
"Ali" in Lanyu language means "very small," and the shop is indeed quite small, resembling a pavilion built on a hillside. The seating is almost all facing the sea, making it feel like you're sitting on a slope enjoying breakfast while gazing at the ocean.
Since we were staying in the Langdao tribe, which is directly opposite, we arrived at the Hongtou tribe around 10 a.m., so we missed out on the flying fish rice balls and only had the toast option left.
Walnut Cheese Toast
At first glance, it didn't seem like there was much spread on the toast, and it looked quite thin, but it turned out to be really filling! I really liked the walnut cheese spread; you could really taste the walnuts, and it was very aromatic. The only downside was that the toast was not crisp enough.
As for the black tea, it tasted very ordinary; it’s fine for quenching thirst, but nothing to specifically order.
In addition to the flying fish rice balls, "Ali's Breakfast Shop" has another highlight: the owner, who is truly warm and charming, chatting with customers. I really love the people of Lanyu~~ I hope next time I can get to try the flying fish rice balls!
Ali's breakfast has been popular ever since he first arrived on the island 7 years ago. The breakfast restaurant has two biggest features, one is flying fish rice balls, and the other is the incomparable sea view from the seating area.
Flying fish rice balls are very popular, so you have to get up very early, so it is easier to eat when they open the door. So even now, I go back to Orchid Island at least once a year, but my impression of Feiyu Rice Ball is very sparse.
As for the invincible sea view, because the store is located on the slope of Hongtou Village, it can naturally face Yatsushiro Bay. Looking at the blue gradient on the seaside, there is no color code to fully reflect the blue of Orchid Island.
Needless to say, the boss himself, Aligei, is very hospitable and friendly. If you have a chance, you can chat with him for a few words without any problem. I highly recommend that if you come to Lanyu and live in the west, come here and enjoy breakfast!
