Taiwanese Thai Cuisine is located on Fuhua 7th Street in Yongkang, Tainan. The decor is simple, with a touch of tropical flair, giving off a vibe of affordable exotic cuisine. This time, we ordered the Pepper and Chicken Bowl set, the Thai-style Chicken Nuggets special, and their signature Moon Shrimp Cakes.
The Pepper Chicken Bowl was ordered primarily because I didn't know what it was. It tastes like a version of the salty chicken from the night market, enhanced with peppercorn and a sour flavor. Overall, it was surprisingly good. The chicken thigh meat was tender, and the white rice paired well, but at 180 NT dollars for the set, the price is a bit steep.
The Thai Chicken Nuggets offer much better value for money. This set is 120 NT dollars and also includes soup and simple side dishes, but the chicken surpassed expectations. The skin was crispy, and the inside was juicy, complemented by a sweet and sour sauce, making it feel somewhat like a Southeast Asian version of KFC.
Finally, the Moon Shrimp Cakes were the best dish of the meal. The pastry was crispy, and the shrimp filling was substantial, paired excellently with their sauce. The portion was not large, but still acceptable.
Overall, it’s a decent restaurant. Dishes like the Pepper Chicken Bowl are innovatively flavored but overpriced, but the performances of the chicken nuggets and shrimp cakes were impressive. If I visit again, I might try more of their fried dishes or soups.
