Korean Solo Dining Journey - Kongling One Chicken
In Seoul, two very popular chicken restaurants are Chen Yuhua One Chicken and Kongling One Chicken, each with its own supporters. I chose Kongling One Chicken located in Sinchon because I found out in advance that you can dine alone! Plus, there are fewer crowds in Sinchon~
You must order at least one chicken when entering the restaurant, and of course, I ordered one for myself~ I arrived at the restaurant at 6 PM, and it was about 80% full. After being seated smoothly, the staff quickly brought out a pot of chicken soup.
The soup served cannot be eaten directly!! The meat is about 80-90% cooked, so during this time, you wait for instructions from the staff, and you don't even need to know about cooking times, as the staff will keep checking on you~ During the waiting period, I curiously took a sip of the broth and found it rather bland, wondering if everyone had overrated it (?)
About 20 minutes later, the staff came over and said it was ready to eat. At this point, the soup was completely different!!! The essence of the whole chicken had been cooked out, and the originally light broth had turned rich and flavorful 🤤 Although the chicken meat wasn't exceptionally tender, it was very tasty when dipped in the sauce!!
I noticed that tables with two or more people almost always order additional noodles or porridge. For the noodles, you add them in yourself when they are served, and for the porridge, after finishing, the staff will come over to cook the leftover broth into porridge. But since I was eating a whole chicken by myself, I was too full to try it, but hopefully, I can give it a shot next time!
