The signature pan-fried buns from Xiangxingji are made fresh and cooked to order. They have a crispy bottom sprinkled with black and white sesame seeds. Although they aren’t very hot, the soup filling is rich, the skin is thin and intact, and the meat filling is tender and well-seasoned.
Outside the shop, there are a few small tables for customers to stand and enjoy their food. The preparation speed is fast, and while there is a line, the waiting time is not long.
Payment can only be made by card or Octopus, and cash is not accepted. Overall service efficiency is high.
This is Xiangxingji Shanghai Styled Pan-Fried Buns located in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. The signature pan-fried buns are 6 for 63 Hong Kong dollars, and payment can only be made by card or Octopus card; cash is not accepted. There are quite a few people queuing, but the production speed is relatively fast, so you don’t have to wait too long.
Xiangxingji has been recommended by the Michelin Bib Gourmand for several consecutive years and is quite famous, setting high expectations before eating. The pan-fried buns are freshly made and cooked on the spot, with a crispy bottom and a sprinkle of black and white sesame on top, making them look very tempting. However, it’s a little disappointing that when I got them, they were only warm, not the piping hot freshness I expected, which was somewhat surprising.
When you bite into it, there's really a lot of soup, so be careful of splattering. The skin is thin but doesn’t break, the meat filling is tender, and the seasoning is quite good, making it taste up to standard. Overall, although the price isn’t considered cheap in my impression, it is a pretty decent dining place in the Tsim Sha Tsui area.
There are a few small tables at the entrance where two or three groups of customers can stand and eat. If you happen to pass by, you might want to give it a try and experience the charm of the Michelin-recommended pan-fried buns.
