I always feel that when going abroad, I have to try some local specialty foods. When I first saw this store, I didn’t think it was anything special, but my dad specifically went to check out the menu and discovered that this place actually specializes in selling donkey meat and beef! Suddenly, I became interested in this type of local snack… Although I was a bit afraid of the fishy smell, it seemed my dad was particularly interested, so we went in!

The shop was small and felt like a simple noodle place, with one chef inside and a lady serving outside. The lady was very polite, introduced the dishes in detail, and always kept a smile on her face while answering our various questions!

We first ordered:
❤️ Donkey Miscellaneous Soup
This was the first dish we ordered—a bowl of soup served with baked flatbread. I later got used to how in mainland China, their meals often consist mainly of carbs. When the baked flatbread arrived, I was no longer surprised; it was made from coarse grains and actually quite dry, which explains why it was served with soup. The ingredients in the soup were quite rich, and the flavor of the broth was pretty good. I heard that this type of donkey soup is very nourishing, and drinking it on a windy night in Beijing was actually quite nice!

❤️ Donkey Liver
Perhaps because my family had eaten it before, this dish was highly recommended. The owner's wife was very happy to make it into a cold dish for us. She mentioned that generally, this way encourages people to be more willing to try it. Indeed, the cold version didn't have a powdery texture that could be off-putting; rather, it had a somewhat solid mouthfeel and was quite appetizing!

❤️ Donkey Intestine Noodles
This bowl of noodle soup used hand-pulled noodles, and the broth tasted more like beef soup than the earlier donkey miscellaneous soup. The portion for the entire meal was really generous, and thankfully, it wasn't too salty. Overall, the flavor was pretty good!

This restaurant was the only one during our trip to Beijing that my dad specifically asked about, wondering if we could find it again if we came back. It seems my family really liked it! If anyone has a chance to go to Beijing and is willing to try, I think it’s worth experiencing!
