Currently enjoying my favorite mochi...💭🍴
At Youfu Ji Mochi near the Kaohsiung Guandi Temple, people started lining up before 12:00. However, since the owner's hands are very quick, it’s better to arrive a little early or just on time (I got there around 12:00 on Monday and was about the 5th or 6th in line) so you won’t have to wait too long~
Remember to check their Facebook page before going to see if they are open; sometimes they take a day off!

There are 6 flavors (original, peanut, sesame, red bean, green bean, taro), and the most famous is the taro flavor, which is very popular on Instagram.
However, each flavor is not just a simple filling; you can refer to the shop's menu. For example, the green bean mochi contains peanuts, sesame, and powdered sugar) which makes it less monotonous. The original flavor is a combination of sesame, powdered sugar, and peanuts; make sure to confirm before buying👀
(The shop is very considerate and offers sweetness adjustments for the original, peanut, sesame, and green bean flavors, as the filling has added powdered sugar. If you don’t want it too sweet, you can mention it to the owner.)

❗️There’s a limit of 20 pieces per person.
My friend and I bought every flavor except the original~
My personal favorites are red bean, peanut, and taro.
The taro has a very low sweetness; it’s basically just the flavor of the taro itself, and it’s not dry—very pure and really good!
The peanut and red bean flavors are quite strong, with a slightly higher sweetness, but not overly sweet.
Their mochi skin is very chewy and they give a generous amount of filling; for the price, I think it’s totally worth it 😌 If you can’t finish it, you can freeze it and then steam it in a rice cooker when you want to eat it.
The shop has posted instructions nearby, and they don't recommend keeping it until the next day, as the skin will become very hard and the texture will be quite different.
