Korea's Solo Dining Journey - Must-Visit "Hanok" Café in Hongdae

On a weekday afternoon, I visited the popular café Shinri-dog House in Hongdae, which many influencers have recommended, located about an 11-minute walk from the subway station. It's slightly away from the bustling streets and nestled in a quiet alley. You can tell the effort put into the place just by looking at the entrance, which features a traditional Hanok gate, and you have to walk along a stone path to reach the actual entrance.

If you go on a Saturday, it might be crowded, but on a weekday afternoon, the indoor, outdoor, and second-floor seating are all quite chill. The outdoor seats are particularly popular as everyone wants to enjoy the natural scenery of the Hanok courtyard.

Ordering is done through a self-service kiosk with options for English and Korean. After placing your order, you receive a number card, and then you can find a seat. The staff will observe where you sit, call your number, and you can then go to the counter to pick up your food. After finishing your meal, you also need to return your used plates and utensils to the counter!

☕ Ice Americano $5,400
I ordered an ice Americano, and it tasted normal, but that’s not the main point! 😅 This cup serves as an entry ticket, as what truly impresses is the café's decoration!

💡 Decor is Amazing
The design of Shinri-dog House is incredibly thoughtful! The entire café features a traditional Hanok style combined with a modern touch, using a white color scheme and wooden structures that are minimal yet warm.
The outdoor area inside is a beautiful courtyard, and it’s said that during winter, there’s a stone pile that turns into a fire pit for roasting marshmallows.
The second-floor seating isn’t Hanok-style but features a more modern minimalist concrete design, offering a spacious view that’s great for photos.
Every corner is meticulously designed, even the green plants by the window and the decorations on the wall exude a Korean ambiance. The seating is well-dispersed, so even when it’s busy, the design doesn’t make it feel cramped; sitting anywhere feels like being in a magazine photo. Next time I want to bring friends to take photos; this is definitely a hot spot in Hongdae! 💕
