【Foodholic Niko @ Taipei】
"Bon Village Fried Chicken" specializes in Busan-style Korean fried chicken. This year, they expanded to Taiwan, and currently, there are only two branches in Taipei, both near Taipei Station. The "Zhongqing South Branch" happens to be very close to my office, only a 5-minute walk from the 228 Memorial Park, so I went here for lunch with my colleagues on Friday!
In addition to selling Korean fried chicken, they also offer a variety of Korean dishes, so you don't have to worry about just eating fried chicken and getting tired of it.
Mixed Fried Chicken (L) $519
Includes 4 legs + 10 wings, but actually, what you get looks more like 4 large chicken legs and many drumsticks. The outer skin is crispy, while the chicken meat inside is tender and juicy. The classic Yangnyeom flavor is not very spicy and has a hint of sweetness, which I personally think is quite delicious! You can keep getting pickled radish, which goes great with the fried chicken!
Korean Seafood Pancake $279
The seafood was a bit sparse; it would be better if it were a little crispier. It’s suggested to dip it in sauce, as eating it alone is somewhat bland. This dish is optional.
Korean Pork Belly $359
Comes with lettuce, but there aren't many pieces (though I forgot if you can get more for free or if you have to pay extra). The dipping sauce, sliced scallions, and garlic can be refilled. I usually think eating just the meat is better than wrapping it in lettuce, but the pork belly wrapped in lettuce with the dipping sauce, scallions, and garlic here is really delicious! You definitely don't feel like you're just eating greens; the combination is just right!
Stone Pot Bibimbap $239
I ordered it spicy, which is about mild heat, but overall, the stone pot bibimbap tasted quite ordinary. It seemed like it didn’t have the crispy rice layer I was hoping for, so if I visit again, I probably wouldn't order this dish.
Seafood Tofu Hot Pot $279
This hot pot portion is quite small, but the ingredients are relatively plentiful. Unfortunately, it seems not hot enough; by the time I served it into a small bowl, it felt a bit cool. Additionally, the taste was quite average, so I probably wouldn't order this next time either.
Korean Rice Ball $119
You need to wear disposable gloves to mix the ingredients before shaping them into rice balls. Kids would probably enjoy this a lot as it's fun to make and tasty (?). Personally, I think it tastes great with mayonnaise and seaweed, so I liked it!
Overall, I found the Korean fried chicken and pork belly very delicious, while the other dishes were more ordinary. I would like to visit again to try items like the seaweed vermicelli roll!
