I remember when I came to Korea a long time ago, breakfast porridge like this was very popular. There used to be a few branches near Myeongdong, and sometimes if we went too late in the morning, we had to wait in line! I didn’t expect that nowadays, even though there are still some people dining, breakfast porridge no longer has the glory it once did. This time, since my friend had never tried it, we thought we’d come in the morning to eat something light, so we wouldn’t always have heavy flavors throughout our days in Korea!
This restaurant is located a bit off the beaten path, in a small shop inside a building. Since it has managed to survive, there must still be diners, but perhaps we came a bit early, so there weren’t many people eating! The porridge portions here are actually quite big, but the restaurant insists that each person must order one, which is usually too much to finish. However, trying different flavors is still quite nice!
Personally, I always like to order the tomato flavor, and it’s even better if they can add a bit of cheese on top, which gives it a kind of baked rice feel. The left side of the photo shows a similar flavor, slightly sour and very appetizing!
Another type usually comes with a milder flavor. I’ve tried many different kinds, and they all seem quite similar. The main thing is that when the weather is cool in the morning, having a hot bowl of porridge feels particularly comforting!
Overall, if I lived nearby and it was convenient to come over, or if I had too many days of fried food or BBQ, I would come to have a meal for breakfast or lunch. However, I wouldn't specifically insist on coming to this place; I would choose other convenient options nearby.
