Before going, we actually did a bit of homework. We didn't know why Amsterdam had several restaurants selling Indonesian cuisine, and many people online claimed that the Indonesian food here is very authentic. If there’s a chance, we definitely want to try it! After searching online for a while, we decided on this restaurant. After all, Indonesian cuisine here is indeed quite polarized. Many people from Western countries find the flavors great, but many Asians feel it's nothing special. I think it has to do with personal taste. Western countries have fewer similar dishes, which for us Taiwanese, are more like common home-cooked meals!

Since it was our first time coming here, we chose the typical options that most travelers would probably choose: the set menu ❤️. There are actually only two types of set menus, depending on the number of people, you can choose either 12 or even 18 dishes. If you’ve been here before or are already familiar with Indonesian cuisine, they also have large plates of dishes you can select individually.

After choosing the set menu, I added turmeric rice. The flavor of the turmeric rice was quite rich, and you could taste the fragrant turmeric. Since many Indonesian dishes tend to be spicy, it's indeed better to have rice to make it easier to eat!

Overall, I felt that Indonesian cuisine didn’t particularly amaze me, but it was still quite good. Most of the dishes were similar to the kinds we typically eat but used some of their Indonesian shrimp paste or other spicy sauces 🌶️ for stir-frying. So, it did have some personal characteristics. Some dishes, like the green beans, tasted no different from Taiwanese dishes! To sum it up, I think if you are not particularly curious, you can skip it. However, if you’re planning to visit Bali, you might want to save that money to enjoy two meals there instead. But if you’re open to trying new things, it can be quite fun to check it out! I recommend it to everyone!
