This time, I visited "Tofu-an Yamanaka," a tofu specialty store located just 3 minutes on foot from Naiku-mae Station! Since opening in 2003, it has continuously served local and tourist customers, bustling in the Oharaicho area. The shop is popular for "Okara" donuts and soft-serve ice cream that you can enjoy while taking a walk!

The Birth of "Tofu-an Yamanaka"
"I want to make tofu that utilizes the delicious water from the Isuzugawa River." This desire is what started Tofu-an Yamanaka.
With just three simple ingredients: water, soybeans, and nigari, we believe that the most important thing is to put our heart into "selection and dedication."
The "okara" produced during tofu making can’t be wasted. With a sense of "mottainai," we made "okara donuts" for our children, and they were a big hit.
That’s how "Unohana donuts" began. While they are often called "tofu donuts," they are actually made from "okara."

In appearance, they are simple donuts. When I took a bite, the fluffy and gentle dough had a very light texture. I could easily eat several of these because they are crispy.
Made from soy milk and okara, these donuts are a healthy option that's also great for women. They make good souvenirs! The taste is not overly sweet and easy to eat.

In addition, there are two types of healthy donuts: Unohana Donuts and Unohana Andonuts. Both have a chewy and fluffy texture with a moderate sweetness. They also sell rich yet refreshing soft-serve ice cream, as well as tofu, pudding, and other products made with natural vegetarian nigari, using water from the Isuzugawa River and domestically grown soybeans.
