Located in Nangan, Matsu, Grandma Yi's restaurant is a well-known local spot for Chinese stir-fried dishes and home-style Matsu cuisine. In addition to offering individual meal sets, it also provides dishes for group dining. This time, we chose the group dining option, allowing us to enjoy the rich flavors of Matsu in one go, with the dishes including: drunken white shrimp, oyster omelette, golden dumplings, sautéed cabbage, clams, and the classic red rice wine chicken.

The first dish served, the drunken white shrimp, is refreshing and perfect for pairing with alcohol. The ingredients are fresh, the shrimp are plump, and the wine aroma is subtle and not overpowering, leaving a hint of sweetness after eating. The oyster omelette is a highlight of simplicity, filled with plump oysters, the edges of the omelette are golden and slightly crispy, offering a distinct fragrance, making it a very enjoyable home-cooked dish.

The golden dumplings are one of Matsu's specialties. Biting into them reveals a slightly crispy shell and a firm filling, a flavor that is relatively rare in Taiwan. Next is the sautéed cabbage, which maintains its moisture, making it crisp and tender without being greasy, perfectly complementing the other dishes.

The clams are seasoned just right, with the fragrant garlic and satay sauce wafting through the air. Although they are not large in size, they are very flavorful, making them a great side for rice. The centerpiece dish, the red rice wine chicken, has a clear but not overpowering aroma of red rice wine; the chicken is tender, with a slight sweetness and fermentation flavor that many fall in love with after just one bite.

Grandma Yi's restaurant gives the feeling of stepping into a Matsu home for a meal. It's not about flashy techniques, but rather warmth, authenticity, and local flavors. If you come to Nangan and want to experience true Matsu tastes, this place would be a great choice.
