When you arrive in Chiayi, aside from turkey rice, Yu Xiang Wu is almost universally recommended as one of the classic hand-shaken drink stores. The shop is located in a bustling area of the city, and regardless of weekdays or holidays, you can often see a line of people outside. This time, I was quite lucky as I only waited about 10 minutes to get my drink.

I ordered the signature drink — grapefruit green tea. It was packed with fresh grapefruit flesh, not holding back at all. With almost every sip, I could taste the fruit, where the tangy sweetness intertwined, creating a rich texture. The grapefruit naturally carries a hint of bitterness and acidity, paired with refreshing green tea, the overall flavor was balanced and became smoother with each sip. Moreover, the staff even added a plum for free, enhancing the layers of texture.

Overall, there is a reason why Yu Xiang Wu can be considered a representative beverage shop in Chiayi. The ingredients are genuine, the taste is stable, and it is highly recognizable, making people willing to wait in line. Even if it’s not my first time drinking it, I am still captivated by the abundant fruit flesh — it’s a local classic that’s hard to forget after having just one cup.
