Midnight Snack2 pplNT$105

This time we tried "Shanghai Crispy Chicken Shulin Head Store," which is located in the middle of the night market, easy to spot, and has a decent queue.

Among the three snacks, the most impressive was the squid sweet and sour dish, which featured the fresh taste of squid. The outer layer was crispy and not greasy; if ordered alone, it would earn a 3.5 out of 5, making it a snack worth trying again.

The cheese sticks were average, with a taste typical of common frozen foods, lacking any surprises, and did not string much when eaten, leaving little memorable experience.

The biggest disappointment was the boneless crispy chicken. Taking the first bite nearly left me dumbfounded—cold, not fried properly, with insufficient temperature and dry, tough meat, and not "crispy" at all. After bringing it home and reheating it in an air fryer, it slightly improved in texture, but the on-site dining experience was poor; I just wanted to eat while strolling through the night market!

In summary, while "Shanghai Crispy Chicken Shulin Head Store" is located in a prime area with numerous food options, its overall performance is inconsistent. I recommend trying individual items like the squid sweet and sour dish, while for the rest, it may be better to look for other vendors.

Umami by Han
AsianMaastricht
Umami is a modern asian fusion restaurant which "is dedicated to creating a unique dining experience that combines the best of both worlds, showcasing the art of umami flavors and fostering a sense of community through social dining." They serve original Chinese fusion dishes in a modern setting. The dishes are innovative with a culinary touch for an accessible price. Not only the food is innovative and different from anything else, they also serve amazing tea-pairing menus. You can choose between the social dining menu which comes with 3 courses while each course consists of two dishes to be picked from the menu. However, all dishes can be ordered a la carte as well. Additionaly there are two pre-arranged menues, the Michelin Bib Gourmand menu to be chosen between three or four courses and which is available as a vegetarian version too. We went for the Michelin Bib Gourmand menu with four courses. The selection was very well chosen. The two dishes coming for each course matched very well and delivered a journey through all different tastes. The atmosphere was good and the staff very friendly and helpful. Definately a recommendation if you like asian food and want to try many different tastes for dinner.

海南雞 🐔 since 1960

🐓 expats are as expats do — a famous touristy place for enjoying the world-renowned 海南-styled Chicken Rice, medicinal herbal soup with quality bitter melon plus extra sweet choko, a icy-cold longan drink that is good for maintaining better blood pressure (especially after consuming so much meaty saturated and trans fats) and a petite bowl of complimentary traditional Chicken’s Feet Soup — well, the simple yet aromatic chicken is fresh, juicy and tender with a pinch of salt and their secret spicy chilly sauce; not anything surprising beyond foodies’ fairly high gastronomic expectations though, these affordable flavors are eternally welcomed for worldwide hungry customers indeed.
