Hiiii ˖ ࣪⊹ Long time no see ✨ It’s been a while since I updated my food diary. Recently, I’ve been very keen on finding pistachio desserts from different places (really in a situation of loving them so much I can’t let go). Just in time, the raw donuts trend is quite popular lately, so I took the opportunity to try them during my vacation. 😋

This time, I’m sharing about a place called Mayfly Dessert Studio in Taichung’s West District. It’s open from Friday to Sunday, and the operating hours are only five and a half hours each day. The shop is small and super cute; I could take random photos, and they turned out pretty nice. Riding a scooter is very convenient, and if you drive, you can park right in front of the shop; you’ll have to hurry after buying as there’s no seating available. 🤣 I visited on a weekday at around three o’clock, and there were only a few donuts left in the display case, with many flavors completely sold out. Seeing the three people in line ahead of me made me extremely nervous... because my targets were the pistachio and caramel apple flavors (only two and one left!). Thankfully, I got lucky and managed to buy both, feeling grateful. 💗

  • Flamed Caramel Apple (with cinnamon) $65
  • Pistachio Buttercream $95

In the end, I bought two pistachio donuts and one caramel apple to share with my family. On my way home, I sneaked a few bites of the pistachio flavor; basically, if you apply a bit more pressure, it will burst! When I first tried the texture of the donut, I was genuinely amazed... Wait, is this really a donut? How can it be so soft and a bit chewy? At that moment, I completely understood why it’s called a raw donut. (It really feels like raw dough kneaded into a donut, super soft and delicious.) The pistachio flavor was not disappointing at all; it was very distinct. However, besides the creamy filling, the outer layer of the donut also had powdered sugar, making it overall quite sweet (well, it is a donut after all). I felt that having one after a meal was just the right amount.

  • After getting home and refrigerating it, I discovered a new territory; it was twice as delicious after chilling! The ooze level of the filling decreased, and it was cool and refreshing. I personally also really liked the caramel apple flavor. The outer caramel crust added a nice texture and surprise to the overall experience. The filling wasn’t overly sweet; even a little ant would love it! 🐜

Next time you want to try, you can message their official Line account to place an order and avoid relying on luck. If you don’t want to queue at I'm donut, you can give this place a try for something new!
