📍Hiroshima, Japan
Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki must-try at the long queue at Okonomiyaki Street ⛩️🦪

The Hiroshima Shinkansen station is spacious and impressive. Next to it is the ekie department store, which is very pleasant to browse, featuring a supermarket, department store, and souvenirs.

The peak dining time with the most crowds is at Okonomiyaki Street on the first floor, where about four or five okonomiyaki shops have long lines.
We chose a shop that smelled fantastic 🤤 and has spacious seating, so we didn't have to sit facing anyone else while waiting in line.

On Saturday night, the waiting time from lining up to receiving our meal took about 30 minutes.

Order details
🥠 Fukuchan Okonomiyaki (¥1,380):
This shop has a simple okonomiyaki menu.
We ordered two of the shop’s popular No.1 items.
The ingredients include squid tempura, green onions, and a sunny-side-up egg.

The difference between Hiroshima-style and Osaka-style okonomiyaki is that Hiroshima-style includes noodles, unlike Osaka-style which is made mainly of batter. This time, we each ordered a version that included either soba or udon noodles to try.

When the dish arrived, I was shocked at the size of the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki 🤯—it was really, really big! Packed full of green onions and noodles, it was quite a challenge to finish 🤣

Personally, I preferred the soba noodles a little more. They added a nice crispy texture after being grilled on the teppan.

Aside from the squid tempura having too much batter, which affected the texture, all the other ingredients were very tasty. The green onions were quite thick, and every bite was filled with intense fresh onion flavor.

🦪 Creamy Soy Sauce Grilled Oysters (¥1,200):
When in Hiroshima, you must try the grilled oysters. Almost every table orders this dish.

The cooking and seasoning of the oysters were just right, preserving their rich juiciness. The first bite combined the flavors of cream and soy sauce with the milky essence of the oyster—it was simply amazing!

Additionally, the shop is very well organized; there’s a chef dedicated solely to frying the oysters, and watching him work with a large amount of oysters at once is very satisfying.

Would I visit again: Yes!
