Located on Zhengqiang Street in Yongkang, Tainan, "Daimaru Tofu Pudding and Grass Jelly Ice Shop" is a small shop I love to go to for cooling off in the summer. This time, I tried their red bean milk shaved ice and found it quite good. The ice is crunchy and refreshing (isn't that obvious? 😆), with the milky aroma of condensed milk, and the sweetness is just right, not overly cloying at all. The red beans are distinct and soft, without being mushy, making it a perfect match with the shaved ice. The portion size is also quite generous; it doesn't become a small bowl just because it's budget-friendly. The price is reasonable, and for those who want a simple bowl of ice in the summer, this combination is very satisfying.
This shop has the feel of a friendly neighborhood ice shop, lacking in flashy decorations or innovative flavors, but the consistent quality makes one feel reassured. I recently noticed they added clay pot noodles, probably to welcome the arrival of winter. However, I personally am not a fan of clay pot noodles 😆 and hope they can continue to excel in their ice offerings.
Overall, Daimaru Tofu Pudding and Grass Jelly Ice Shop is a great choice for cooling off in the summer at the corner of the street. There’s no need to overly expect creative dishes, but if you're looking for a bowl of affordable and delicious traditional ice treats, this place can definitely satisfy.
