As the saying goes: Tainan people love the beef soup from the stall at the end of my street the most. And this shop is indeed near the end of the street. In recent years, with the rise of tourism in Tainan, more and more beef soup shops have opened, and the quality has started to vary 🥲
This shop has been open for several years and seems to be from the same owner as a beef soup place on South Park Road. I’m not sure if they split up, but personally, I find both places to be quite good in terms of taste.
As for the minced pork rice, I was a bit disappointed. Their pork is cut into smaller pieces and lacks enough fat. I personally prefer a heartier version of this dish.
The soup, however, is pretty good. The meat is fresh and doesn’t get overcooked, but the slices aren’t so rare that they are unappetizing. The beef slices have a nice chew to them, and the broth is on the lighter side without being too sweet; it’s easy to finish it off in one go.
They are also very generous with their sauces, especially with the rice wine available as a condiment. The beef slices paired with their sauces and the rice wine are particularly delicious, though I must remind you not to overdo it to avoid drunk driving.
The only downside is the price, which has risen from just over a hundred when they first opened to nearly two hundred now. However, coming back to eat once in a while still feels worthwhile, and I recommend it to everyone.
