Dining Time: 2025/03/22
I've heard about Xinyuan for quite a while now. This time, I specially made a reservation in Taichung to pay a visit. The restaurant has an online reservation system. After confirming the reservation, we also needed to pay a deposit of 400 NTD per person, which would be deducted from our final bill on the day of dining.
At first glance, it's hard to recognize it as a Taiwanese cuisine restaurant. Once inside, we had to wait a bit at the entrance because the previous customers hadn't left yet.
As for the menu, besides ordering a la carte, there are set menus for 1 to 3 people to choose from. In the end, we chose:
⭐️ Shrimp and Egg Yolk Shimeji Mushroom (additional charge for the personal set)
⭐️ Traditional Braised Pork with Plum (additional charge for the personal set)
⭐️ Crispy Taro Duck Roll (a la carte)
⭐️ The personal set that comes with the main dish includes rice, daily soup (pickled mustard greens with shredded pork soup), vegetables (cabbage), 3 side dishes (cumin king oyster mushrooms, taro cake, scallion oil chicken), and a drink (coffee vinegar drink).
Alternatively, you can pay extra to change the soup and drink.
One group swapped the soup for black garlic chicken soup and the drink for osmanthus oolong cold brew tea.
Additionally, the restaurant also provided us with homemade dried fish chili for tasting. If we liked it, we could purchase it separately.
Overall, while the portions seemed manageable at first, they added up to be quite a lot. In the end, the two of us couldn't finish everything and had to pack some for dinner.
In conclusion, this is a Taiwanese restaurant where you can enjoy your meal slowly. The flavors are not too strong, but everything is a rice killer! I recommend everyone to come and give it a try!
