"Eat a good breakfast and your whole day will be great."
As a student in Tainan, I eat all the time when I return to Tainan
The first stop of Tainan’s 400-year food and drink journey - Happy Pot Stickers
I have always been fond of eating egg pancakes and dumplings, and this restaurant can satisfy both wishes at once, so for my first brunch in Tainan, I decided to have Happy Pot Stickers, and some of their signature ancient vegetable pancakes and golden pot stickers.
There are only 3 tables with outdoor seating. Although there is shade, there are no electric fans or air conditioners, so it will inevitably be a bit hot in summer.
Ancient vegetable pancake (+ vegetables + eggs) $55
Adding eggs and vegetables is the original pancake with a layer of eggs and cabbage, but when you eat it, the eggs will still separate from the eggs and vegetables.
The pancake itself tastes a bit like Korean seafood pancake. It is very crispy and has a texture similar to deep-fried pancake. Although it is inevitably a little greasy, I still like it very much!
Golden pot stickers 6 pieces $36
The pot stickers are fried crispy and hot. They are also half-fried, but the oil on the outside is quite good. They are not full of oil when you pinch them. The pot stickers are slightly smaller than Bafang Yunji, and they are more like larger fried ones. Dumplings, not too much filling, not too little, taste very good
Overall, the boss is very kind, and the food is delicious and not expensive. Although it was really amazing before we arrived, if you are visiting Tainan and live nearby, you can come for breakfast. It didn’t cost more than $100 for the two of us! (But it’s also because we didn’t order much, there’s still a lot of food to eat later)
p.s. I met a Japanese uncle who was dining with us at the same table. We chatted and found out that he had lived in Tainan for a while. He often came to this restaurant and would buy a can of beer to go with the pot stickers. He also got to know the boss very well. He was so cute.
