I visited a popular hand-shaken drink shop in Chiayi that was recommended online. Although there were a lot of people, there were enough staff members so I didn’t have to wait long. The shop had a sign on the floor for photos and a small menu to look at while deciding what to order. I felt a bit hesitant because everything looked delicious, but I noticed the two groups before me both ordered the hot fresh milk tea, so I decided to order a cup with 30% sugar and hot temperature, and they even offered free tapioca pearls (you could also choose grass jelly).
I found the balance of milk and tea to be just right; it wasn’t too tea-heavy and was quite smooth to drink. The tapioca pearls were medium-sized—between the larger and smaller sizes found at other drink shops. They weren't mushy and were easy to chew, which I personally thought was quite good. I appreciated that I could add toppings for free; it felt very worth it. I would definitely want to visit again next time I'm in Chiayi to try other drinks.
