【Foodholic Niko @ Taipei】
"Delicious Hong Kong-style fast food" is a barbecue bento shop located near Taipei Station, about a 7-minute walk from the Z6 exit, on Huaining Street. The area is filled with snack restaurants popular among office workers, and since it's along my route home from the office, I decided to buy it for dinner.
I ordered the combo rice for $125, which allows you to choose two items from options like oil chicken, roasted duck, char siu, roasted pork, sausage, and lap cheong. I chose roasted duck and roasted pork. The skin of the roasted duck is very fragrant; it tastes rich and oily. However, the small downside is that it can be tough to chew (it has a lot of resilience!), so I wouldn’t recommend it for elderly people with dental issues, as they might just end up giving up on it entirely, hahaha. The roasted pork doesn’t have a terrifyingly strong pork flavor, and since I’m someone who dares to eat fatty meat, I found that eating a whole piece was not too greasy.
The white rice is topped with sauce and scallions. I felt that just eating it like this made me unknowingly eat a lot of rice. For those looking to lose weight and worried about overeating rice, you can ask the staff for less rice.
As for the side dishes, there are three items in total. Besides the tofu, there are two types of vegetables, which I personally think are quite tasty. Of course, it’s inevitable for a barbecue bento shop to be a bit oily, but that’s to be expected and still acceptable.
The bento I bought for my family also came as a combo, choosing oil chicken and roasted duck. The oil chicken looks great too; I’ll have to order that next time!
