Yoshinoya's branch in Taiwan isn't very tasty, and it's getting worse and worse. I don't know if my taste has become more particular or if the quality of the meals has really declined.
At the moment, I didn’t know what to eat. I thought that since there was a rice bowl restaurant nearby, I would just walk in. In hindsight, if I had the chance to choose again, I definitely wouldn’t walk in 😂.
The decor of this Xuhui branch is similar to other branches, with the same chain restaurant atmosphere. If you swipe your EasyCard when ordering, you can get quite a few discounts; I highly recommend using electronic payments.
In the utensils area, there’s unlimited pickled ginger you can take, which is probably the best food I had here. It’s tangy enough and has a refreshing coolness that adds a bit of flavor to the otherwise bland rice bowl.
Pork and Chicken Combo Rice Bowl 🐷🐔
🌕🌘🌑🌑🌑
The chicken thigh here really isn't good—it's dry and tough, lacking the tenderness expected from chicken, and it's hard to chew. I really do not recommend it. The pork is relatively easier to eat; the sliced fatty pork is tender and thin, and it’s quite filling. The rice bowl itself has plain rice, and the vegetables served on the side are tragically unappetizing, so I won't say more.
Chawanmushi (Japanese steamed egg custard)
🌕🌕🌑🌑🌑
This is a very average steamed egg dish, with cheap pink and white fish cake inside, along with a small slice of mushroom and some corn—just like that, comparable to what I could buy next door at 7-11.
Miso Soup
🌕🌑🌑🌑🌑
This is just an extremely ordinary miso soup, with no other ingredients' aromas—just soup made from inexpensive miso paste with a few sad tofu skin slices; it’s quite disheartening.
In short, this is a place with "very stable quality." As for what aspect of 'stability' it refers to, if you read a little more context, you might get an idea. The service was nothing to write home about, the atmosphere was average, and the food was not good. I will definitely not walk in here again!
