Taitung City is a battleground for steak restaurants, with a density that really rivals convenience stores (and then some). However, there are also some good steak houses in the outskirts of the city, and Songgeng is one of them. Located beneath a commercial building, it has a spacious dining area.
The meal sets have quite a generous amount, divided into appetizers like salad, toasted bread, creamy soup, main steak dish, drinks, and dessert. Speaking of the steak, I personally think it tastes better than the same-priced offerings at Lai Lai Steakhouse, and may even surpass the more expensive European steak options. Besides the good quality of the meat, the level of doneness on the grill is just right; the meat is tender enough to bite into yet retains a pleasing firmness, especially when paired with rose salt—it's truly delicious! The main dish of pasta is also quite good, cooked to a slightly soft inside.
While the other side dishes may not be very refined, they showcase a lot of sincerity and have a fresh taste. The creamy soup is milk-flavored rather than cheese-based, which adds a unique flavor profile.
I highly recommend everyone come to taste Songgeng Steak; you can enjoy good steak without waiting in line!
