🍲 Kaohsiung branch of a 60-year-old restaurant from Tainan

We originally planned to eat at Shantou Quancheng with family that day, but we underestimated the crowd at the popular restaurant, so we had to switch our plans to try another place we hadn’t been to before.

The Tainan Satay Hotpot has always been a well-known delicacy, with the main branch located on Jinghua Road in Tainan, boasting a history of 60 years. 👍🏻

The clear broth made from flatfish and squid 🦑 is the biggest highlight of Shantou hotpot. Those who usually prefer a lighter taste can enjoy it on its own, while those who enjoy stronger flavors can add satay, which brings a unique👌🏻 taste.

The ordering method is to choose how many servings of meat to order. Since my family doesn’t eat beef, we opted for pork. For three people ordering two servings, we received a meat platter and a vegetable platter (forgot to take a photo of the meat 🥹). The rest of the items can be taken from the refrigerator at the side.

The fridge is stocked with all kinds of vegetables, tofu products, and hotpot ingredients, including Tainan specialties like fish roll and fish belly balls, which are all great. Each item is covered with plastic wrap, ensuring cleanliness and freshness (very impressive). Different items are served in several types of dishes, and the final bill is calculated based on the style of plating. 💰

The air conditioning and environment are also commendable. The table spacing is spacious enough that conversations won’t disturb neighboring tables. The strong air conditioning prevents too much smell from lingering on us, which is rare after eating hotpot, leaving us feeling refreshed.

Although the flavors aren’t particularly outstanding compared to other popular places, the added bonuses still make me want to revisit occasionally. Everyone has different tastes, but I still recommend everyone to come and give it a try! ✨
