Recently, the natural island salt bread from Korea has become very popular, and I finally got to try it! ✨ They have opened many branches, and you can find them in most famous tourist spots like Hongdae, Seongdong, and Ikseon-dong, and even in Busan! This time, I visited the Island Mountain branch, which is located 400 meters from Exit 5 of Apgujeong Rodeo Station. They open from 9 AM to 10 PM.
For those who are used to having breakfast in Taiwan, you might feel a bit out of place in Korea, as there aren't many breakfast shops, and most places open later. So if you’re visiting Korea and want to grab breakfast, you can try the natural island salt bread. Just a few steps away is London Bagel, which also opens early!
You order using a self-service kiosk, and it’s very convenient to pay with a credit card. A bag of salt bread costs ₩12,000 (about NT$288) and contains four pieces. Unfortunately, you can’t buy less than four pieces, so I recommend sharing with friends or bringing them as a snack for the next day.
I personally feel that having this for breakfast is a bit indulgent; you can distinctly smell the oil aroma. However, that’s why it has a slightly flaky and soft texture when you bite down, and although there’s no filling, it’s still packed with flavor. The salt brings a nice savory taste to it. After eating one, you might need to take a break, or you might feel a bit overwhelmed!
By the way, when I put the leftover piece in my bag thinking I’d eat it later, I forgot about it until the next morning when I pulled it out: Ah! I forgot to eat it! The whole bread had already flattened out like trash... After hesitating for a moment, I thought it’s a shame to waste it, so I took a bite and found out… it was still delicious! 🤣 In fact, I thought it tasted even better than when I just bought it (?).
