There are two restaurants serving chopped pepper fish heads in Wanhua, Taipei, both run by sisters from Hunan. They have different days off, so no matter which day you want to enjoy authentic Hunan cuisine, you can go. This time, we visited Xiaoxiang Garden on a Monday. The restaurant has been in operation for many years; the environment is average, and there aren’t many seats, but it seems like most of the customers are regulars.
The chopped pepper fish head is really big and tastes great; it’s spicy and flavorful. The other dishes are also pretty good—the chicken is tender and delicious, and the sour and spicy shredded potatoes are full of flavor. The dry pot pig's feet were surprisingly tasty. Even the scallion pancakes were sufficiently aromatic. The most surprising dish was the super spicy frog legs; a friend said that if other dishes weren't spicy enough, we should make sure to order this one extra spicy. As a result, this prompted the owner to bring out her exclusive homemade chili sauce, which was incredibly spicy—definitely don’t make such requests casually!
