The weekend is a great time to explore breakfast spots!
"Kao Si Yuan Charcoal Toast Specialist" is not too far from Taipei Main Station, Zhongshan Station, and Shandao Temple Station. The shop is small, with limited dining space, yet there are many takeout customers, and it seems they accept orders from delivery platforms as I saw a lot of people picking up meals. Right now, there is road construction outside, making the space feel even more crowded.
Mid-Autumn Barbecue Egg Toast $65
It's a simple toast filled with pork slices and a fried egg, but it tastes great. The pork slices are marinated beforehand, so with just one bite, you get a satisfying savory flavor. The fried egg is a perfectly runny egg, which is a huge plus. It's an ordinary dish, but one that makes you want to eat it again.
The only downside is that the toast could be toasted a bit crunchier; it felt a little soft when I had it today.
Honey Mustard Chicken Toast $80
Inside this toast is New Orleans-style grilled chicken (I think that's the seasoning), shredded cabbage, a fried egg, and honey mustard sauce, along with a bit of mayonnaise. I think it tastes pretty good, but unfortunately, the chicken pieces aren't very big and can easily be eaten in one bite, leaving you just with the toast afterward.
Milk Tea $45
This is a sweet fresh milk tea, simple and delicious, with a special hint of longan dried fruit aroma.
