Dinner1 pplNT$110

On weekdays, most stores at Dongshi Fisherman’s Wharf have fake operating hours🥲. It seems on the internet that many stores are open, but when I got there in person, I found that most were closed, with whole rows of shuttered doors. Even though it was daytime, there were just rows of iron gates.

On days without tourists and business opportunities, there were very few places open, and I found myself looking around in hope. Although I saw one shop open with some customers, I couldn’t help but worry: “Is it only open because the food isn't good? Are these customers here because they have nowhere else to eat?” Perhaps my expectations were low at first, but later I felt pleasantly surprised, like I had stumbled upon a treasure🥰.

I'll leave the meal details to the photos and mention other aspects~

1️⃣ The fish at the harbor should be great!
This time, I came alone to the harbor and simply couldn’t eat that much. However, I noticed that most of the other tourists were in pairs or more, and every table had to order a grilled pepper fish! I must say, that fish looked pretty big, and it didn’t seem overly cooked or seasoned. The tables that left after their meal had the grilled fish eaten completely clean; it looked really good👀.

2️⃣ Grilled oysters (oyster pancakes) on the spot!
There was a grill in front of the store for grilling oysters, which is done right there on-site! However, I recommend not sitting too close to the grill. Watching the grilling is enjoyable, but the smoke can be quite heavy. The grill setup doesn’t have special exhaust systems, and sometimes when the sea breeze blows, smoke gets all over your face.

3️⃣ Outdoor seating
Around Dongshi Fisherman’s Wharf, there are very few indoor seating options. Many “all-you-can-eat” oyster places are outdoors where you grill and eat yourself. Fortunately, most of them have canopies and rain covers. Besides choosing the right season, visiting during a good season enhances the experience😎. The shop does spray mist and uses electric fans, but it’s really limited.

Overall, I think it’s just an ordinary little shop, but because I encountered unexpectedly good food and it was open while others were not, it relieved my regret of almost not being able to eat at the harbor (a bit of oasis in a desert feels especially precious🥹). Therefore, I end up rating this place a bit higher🤏. For everyone’s reference😆.

Oyster cake $50 each, $130 for 3 This time I’m giving a 5-star 🌟 review for this meal! 🤩 Let’s take a closer look! At first, I was really worried that the fried food would be too greasy, so I cautiously asked what it looked like and how big it was when ordering. After all, the menu alone makes it a bit hard to imagine, and it seemed like no one around had ordered it. Most of the reviews on Google Maps were for other dishes, so it was hard to tell which one it was. Later, the staff said it was pre-packaged and the product was fried after ordering, so I decided to cautiously try ordering one.
Seeing a layer of fried skin, I couldn’t help but worry that it might be very greasy. But as soon as I lifted the laminated paper: Hmm? Completely not oily? Is the laminated paper too impressive? Or is it really not oily at all? Taking a bite reveals the truth: The skin is crispy and not greasy, and as it opens up, the aroma and freshness burst out completely! Instantly making my mouth water!
I quickly took a bite to see the whole picture: oysters, mung bean noodles, chives, and it seemed like there were some other vegetables and condiments as well. However, even with the addition of other ingredients, the oysters were not skimped on. You'll see in the next picture!
Just one more bite, and my eyes lit up! 🤩 Five plump oysters arranged in a circle, with one big oyster in the middle. No matter how you bite, there’s always an oyster; it's incredibly fresh and sweet, completely odorless. Plus, the skin is thin and crispy, and after finishing one, I immediately wanted another! I hesitated for a long time, but then I thought this should be enjoyed hot, so I didn’t take any to go or order more. Otherwise, I really wanted to bring some home. 🥹
Oyster omelette $60 Of course, when eating oysters, you must try the oyster omelette! But I've changed my mind now. When I come to Dongshi for oysters, I must have the oyster buns 👍 The oyster omelette is actually very good as well, definitely more worth it than those sold at night markets or roadside stalls, and there are definitely more oysters. I didn't count them carefully, but based on my feeling, I think the oysters inside the oyster bun might be just as many as those in a plate of oyster omelette, or even more! However, when it comes to the rich and sweet flavor, they're pretty much equal and can't be compared 😍
A small regret is that the oyster omelette has too much flour and a chewy texture, making many parts feel like I'm just eating the flour batter, and there are also fewer vegetables. Personally, I prefer a little less flour, with crispier edges and more vegetables. Therefore, although the oysters are plentiful and sweet, this oyster omelette didn't hit my sweet spot.
The oysters are undeniably large and sweet. I heard that it was already the end of the season, and it wasn't the most beautiful time. I'm really looking forward to dining during the peak season; I should be able to enjoy even plumper oysters! ☺️
This is the grill section, just at the entrance. Apart from oysters and seafood, the entire shop is actually like a stir-fry restaurant, so there are many other options available.
Like a roadside stall, with plastic chairs, disposable tableware, and fans with mist; of course, it's inevitable that the ground and tables will get a bit dirty, which is also a point deducted for me. But the food's performance still makes me want to come back to eat! 👍
