Foodholic Niko @ Kaohsiung
"The Memory Flavor - Xi'an Style Restaurant" is located in Qishan, Kaohsiung. It's a humble little eatery that doesn't look very eye-catching from the outside. If you follow Google Maps, you might walk past it without noticing, haha!
Xi'an Specialty Oil-Poured Noodles $75
The noodles are wide and quite chewy, looking bright red. Besides the spicy oil, there are some pieces of minced pork on top, similar to the meat in braised pork rice, but a bit on the tougher side. I think the spiciness is just moderate, around a mild level. If you come here wanting noodles, you'll probably want to order this one.
Fried Sauce Dry Noodle $60
The noodles are thin and round, and they taste pretty average. I wouldn't want to order it again.
Red Oil Tossed Dumplings $60
Each portion has 10 small dumplings. Although they are small, they are quite tasty. I feel the spiciness is about mild and I would be willing to order it again.
Chive Dumplings 6/dumpling
Although this price for dumplings in the Qishan area is a bit high, the dumplings are quite large, with thin skins and plenty of filling. They also taste very good, and I would want to order them again.
Sour and Spicy Shredded Potatoes $35
The spiciness is probably around medium, being the spiciest among all the side dishes today. It's very sour, spicy, and refreshing, and even family members kept saying, "This is so delicious!"
Stir-Fried Green Beans with Eggplant $40
At first, I didn't understand what the green beans were, but later I realized they are string beans. This dish was my favorite among the sides. The eggplant is very soft, and the string beans are also on the softer side. The flavor is well-balanced, and the spiciness is about mild.
Garlic Pork Slices $40
This dish has more lean meat than the usual garlic pork slices. It seems like the soy sauce has been mixed into all the meat slices, not just poured on top. I think it's quite standard and not a must-order for next time.
Spicy Tossed Cucumbers $40
I can only say the knife skills are impressive; there's a lot of it, and the cucumber slices are cut so that they all stay connected. Very skillful! I feel this side dish, although it is also spicy, is quite refreshing.
Spicy Tossed Onions and Wood Ear Mushrooms $30
At first, I didn't know what this was when I opened it, just saw a pile of spicy oil. Later I realized it was onions. I think the onions are very tasty, but the spiciness is above mild, though I didn't really see any wood ear mushrooms in it.
