Title: Student Eats – What to Have
I was fortunate enough to participate in a visit to the Mengjia Qingshan Temple and try the beef brain stir-fry for $120.
Next to the Ancestor Deity Temple, I discovered a shacha beef restaurant run by an elderly couple, located diagonally across from the Sanwei Food Hall.
Dishes:
Steamed rice $20 *2
Tomato scrambled eggs $120
Stir-fried beef $120
Stir-fried beef brain $120
Thoughts:
I only decided to eat at a casual stir-fry place because I was with friends. I unexpectedly found this restaurant that serves various rare beef internal dishes, so I wanted to give it a try, and I ordered an extra dish of stir-fried beef brain.
The stir-fried beef brain is cooked with eggs, so I initially thought it was purely beef brain, but once I saw it, I felt it was a bit of a pity. Perhaps due to the strong flavor of the beef brain, this dish's taste is much heavier in spices and seasoning compared to the shacha stir-fried beef. If I didn’t know it was beef brain, I wouldn’t have guessed it was beef brain.
The tomato scrambled eggs were purely made from tomatoes, without added ketchup, making it a healthier choice. The stir-fried beef had a fresh type of shacha flavor, but the portion was on the small side. The rice had a soft and moist texture.
Overall, unless you specifically want to try rare items, the prices can be considered on the high side for what you get.
Wait Time:
Approximately 10 to 15 minutes, with the beef brain taking a bit longer to prepare.
