This century-old shop is famous for its traditional pastries. The mung bean cake tastes good, and it's recommended to enjoy it with tea for a better experience. The milk crisp cookie is rather ordinary and does not stand out. The phoenix eye cake seems to be the shop's signature item and is worth a try.
The building has a certain sense of historical significance, having been in operation since the Qing Dynasty, and possesses a long history.
I happened to arrive at Lugang Old Street and thought about buying some souvenirs to share, so I checked online and discovered that there’s a century-old shop, so I decided to give it a try.
After looking at their official website, I found out that this shop has been in operation since the Qing Dynasty, and it indeed has a very long history. Also, judging by the architecture, it certainly has some historical significance.
Online reviews say that the shop specializes in Phoenix Eye Cake (Fengyan Cake), but for some reason, after entering the store and browsing, I decided to buy a different gift box that included 4 mung bean cakes and 3 milk-flavored pastries.
After buying it, I first tried the mung bean cake at home, and I thought it was quite nice, but I recommend pairing it with tea to make it less cloying; it would taste even better.
As for the milk-flavored pastries, they felt just like others I’ve tried before, with nothing particularly special about them.
I would still recommend everyone to try the shop's signature Phoenix Eye Cake, as that seems like it would be even better.
