A famous old house café in Chiayi has been on my list for a long time, and I finally had the chance to visit.

They do not take reservations, and when we arrived, as expected, it was fully booked. The staff asked us to leave our information at the entrance and informed us of the estimated waiting time (about half an hour). They suggested we could take a walk in the park opposite, wait for a phone notification, or wait outside (there is no indoor waiting area).

Once seated, the dining time is limited to 2 hours. They provide both a paper menu and an electronic menu (with pictures of the dishes). Orders need to be placed at the counter, and there are minimum spending requirements: before 1:00 PM, you need to order a savory dish or spend 200 NT dollars; after 1:00 PM, you need to order a savory dish or at least one drink.

We ordered the amber fresh milk tea, which had a well-balanced flavor. The seasonal fruit chiffon cake (strawberry) was beautifully presented, and the cake itself was moist—not too dry and not overly sweet. Besides the main strawberry, there were a few other fruits arranged nicely on the side. The whipped cream was light and refreshing, and I found it quite delicious.

The interior and exterior are beautifully decorated, making it great for those who love to take photos. The dining environment is comfortable and not noisy, allowing for a leisurely afternoon tea. Next time, I would like to try some savory dishes.
